Kayaking Roll Class 7/28/09

Thursday, July 30 2009

Hi Everyone!
It’s Patty, your Renaissance Adventure Guides instructor!
I just wanted to say thanks for taking the "Mastering the Roll" class with me last night as I did not really get a chance to say good-bye to y’all after our lesson! Some of you I have seen for three weeks straight. Others were some new faces. Regardless, it has been a pleasure to meet each and every single one of you.
First thing I want each of you to know: DO NOT FRET IF YOU DID NOT GET THE ROLL 100% LAST NIGHT! It takes most people an average of 6 hours JUST WORKING SPECIFICALLY on the roll to become somewhat consistent.  And it takes YEARS of practice to become 100% consistent. However, you all have had a really good start so let me tell you about a few other things to help you.
For those who are ready to make the transition from the pool into the river....please consider a one day river trip with Renaissance Adventure Guides! During this one day class you will learn the basics needed to enjoy yourself as you paddle down a river.   We start by discussing hydrology and safety concerns and then move onto river skills. You will learn how to ferry, peel out and catch eddies. By the end of the day you will know how to get down a river in a fun and controlled manner. The river portion of this class takes place on the Colorado River near Dotsero (Exit 133 off I-70 W).   Please see available dates here: http://raguides.com/kayaking-school/beginner-kayaking-classes/k111-basic-river-course-weekend/
Or...please consider our Two Day Weekend Away in Glenwood Springs (it is SUCH a good time):  Never been on whitewater before or maybe you simply want to polish up and review your technique? Then this is the class for YOU!  Get ready for two fun-filled days of learning how to negotiate a kayak through class I & II whitewater. All the time you’ll be under the careful guidance of our certified instructors. Our instructor to student ratios are never greater than 1:5 for this course so you are bound to get plenty of personal attention and instruction. Please see dates here: http://raguides.com/kayaking-school/beginner-kayaking-classes/k120-novice-river-clinic-colorado-river/
Also, please consider our Open Pool session on Thu night at the Golden Rec Center. You can pay a $10 entry fee (to us) and if you need gear, we also rent for $10 per session. It’s a great way to practice everything you have learned (or are about to learn).   Just keep in mind reservations are required. http://raguides.com/kayaking-school/pool-classes/open-pool/

And finally, there is “Renaissance on the River.” Every Wed night, we go to the PlayPark in Golden to hold free sessions (instruction is free / gear rental is $10). You can either paddle around in the pond with us and take it easy, or we can take you down the actual playpark run for you to get a taste of whitewater.    Since the water is running high and fast right now, we have infaltable kayaks for you to jump in (along with all the gear to keep you warm and floating) as well as guides to keep an eye on you. It’s a GREAT way to have some fun and enjoy yourselves! We are there 5:30pm to about 8pm. Just look for our big box truck and come over to say hi.

If you have any questions, please email me! I am also in the office everyday from 10am until 4pm.

Thanks so much and make it a great day!
