Idaho Springs Town Run Rapid Names

Friday, June 12 2009

Good morning Jamie,

Thanks for joining us on the river last night.  Even though there was cold weather and the logistical challenges with the paddles I think everyone had a good time.  The water levels are a bit too high for us to be taking our average clients down that section in duckies at the moment but it was good fun for our group.

Here are the rapids names (in order) with some references for you (all rapids are rated here at last night’s water level - 564 cfs)

  1. Wild Wild West (class II) - starts at the put-in for ~50 yards
  2. Charlie Taylor Falls (class II)– by the waterwheel
  3. Castle Falls (class II+) - after the first two bridges
  4. Subway Falls and Argo Holes #1 & 2 (class II+) – by the Subway shop, Bryan ejected in Argo #2
  5. Dizzy Lizzy (class II+) - this is the long, winding rapid after we left town
  6. Power Line (class II) - long straight away before our first break at the Clear Creek Rafting eddie
  7. Mountain Lion (class III-) - below the Scott Carpenter foot bridge
  8. Box Rapid (class III-) - long roller-coaster style waves – everyone liked that one!
  9. Big Kahuna (class II+) - big wave all by itself
  10. Speed Limit 55 (class II) - short, straight wave train with big wave at the bottom
  11. Sneaker (class III-) - S-turn start with the “High-Top” hole that we avoided near the bottom
  12. Twister (class III) - our grand finale

Hope that helps you out.  Please send us the link for your website where you will be posting the blog and let us know once it is up.  Muchas gracias!

Also, we have space in our lake lesson for kayaking this coming Saturday and then the following weekend we have space on our Colorado River 2-Day Beginner River Kayaking lesson.   It would be great to get you into both of those.  We should look at getting photos/video for you for either or both of those as well.  Let us know your thoughts.

Thanks again Jamie, looking forward to seeing you on the water again soon.

Cheers,

Max
