About the Futaleufu Kayak School in Patagonia
Take to the water in the gorgeous Futaleufu Valley on your very own kayak. No experience is necessary as our world-class kayak instructors will teach you everything you need to know about paddling. Settle into your cabana on the banks of the Rio Futaleufu and get ready for the amazing progression from learning your kayak to paddling the rapids.
Start by learning basic strokes and rolls in the dramatic surroundings of Lago Espalon. With one instructor to 4 clients, you’ll have hands-on attention to master the basics and feel comfortable in the water. After two days on the waters of Lago Espalon, test your skills on the river just below the impressive “Cascades of Espalon”. Class II moving water surrounded by stunning beauty inspire and provide ample chances to practice catching eddies. Every kayaker learns by falling in, and this is a great place to get wet. By Day Nine, you’ll be ready for Rio Palena, a stunning Class III section of river along the Argentine border. The capstone of kayak school, is the “Bridge to Bridge” section of the Rio Futaleufu. You’ll have the opportunity to kayak or raft depending on your progress, but we’ll celebrate our achievements back at camp with traditional Asado.
